A pipe class denotes the selection of such pipes
and fittings as may be used for one and the same
pipeline, in which selection their dimensions and
materials have been defined. This standard presents the material designations to
be used for the pipe classes, as well as the
designations of standardised pipe classes.Piping components belonging to pipe classes are
straight pipes, elbows, reducers, tee pieces,
branch connections, collars, flanges, caps,
threaded fittings, screws, nuts, washers and
gaskets. Wall thicknesses, dimensions and other
requirements of pipes and pipe fittings are
presented in dimension standards specified in
pipe-class standards. The selection of the pipe class is dependent on the
fluid, corrosion conditions, pressure and
temperature of the pipeline. The pipe classes are used to facilitate the design,
purchasing, installation of a piping and
maintenance.
