Standardization of pipeline supports began at PSK Standardisointi as early as 1974 and continues to this day. This 3rd edition of the manual compiles the latest versions of support standards. The requirements for supports are constantly increasing, and legislation is also changing, which is why the beginning of this handbook includes statements from notified bodies on compliance. The allowable loads for supports have been determined by calculation or testing according to the European harmonized standard. The supports are compatible with PSK pipe classes, and thus this PSK Handbook 8 "Industrial Pipeline Supports," PSK Handbook 7 "Pipe Classes," and PSK Handbook 9 "Industrial Insulation" together form the foundation of piping design. All standards are bilingual (Finnish and English) and are intended for use in both domestic and international projects. The manual includes primary supports designed for industry by PSK Standardisointi, as well as gate and console supports among secondary supports. Supports can also be used in building services, although they are primarily intended for power plants and process industries. The manual provides comprehensive information needed for the design, manufacturing, installation, and procurement of supports. It presents the names, structures, allowable loads, and calculation bases of standardized primary and secondary supports. The supports have been prepared for the steel materials most commonly used in industry, and there are also specific support standards for plastic pipes. The standards have been prepared by experts from the client, supplier, designer, contractor, manufacturer, and inspection sectors, representing the best practices currently available. Pipeline support is a demanding task. The forces acting on the supports can be very large, and the contents of the pipeline can be hazardous. Sufficient expertise must be used in the design and implementation of supports for pressure equipment safety. PSK Handbook 8 aims to help pipeline designers find the right solutions to support problems.
